Rosalind Noor is a British-Australian artist specialising in traditional Islamic arts. She is an apprentice in Arabic calligraphy in the Chinese style under Haji Noor Deen, and studies Ottoman illumination with Necati Sancaktutan through IRCICA (the Research Centre for Islamic History, Art and Culture, Türkiye).
Noor’s artistic practice predominantly uses water-based media, including ink, natural pigments, and precious metals. Her work draws on the scholarship of Islamic art and the Islamic sciences, for which she was awarded the Postgraduate University Medal. Noor’s first major artwork was selected as an Australian Muslim Artist 2023 finalist, with the painting now on permanent display at the Islamic Museum of Australia and used as an educational resource to improve cultural understanding and combat Islamophobia. She won the 2024 Australian Muslim Artist Art Prize for her work “The Sovereign” and has exhibited internationally. Her work is held in both institutional and private collections, and is on permanent display at the Islamic Museum of Australia.
She is a published children’s book author, with her second picture book, “The Tentmaker of Cairo”, available for pre-order, due for release in April 2026. This is her first book as an illustrator.
